Youri Cayron is a video artist based between Marseille and Pyrenees in France. He regulary works in tandem with the photographer Romain Rivalan. He graduated from Annecy art school in 2008 (DNSEP), and works in the art world as a visual artist and a video maker expressing his own approach, but also producing for other creators and organisations.
Youri Cayron considers video as an extension of the body and space. Interested by the place of humans in our world and the landscape issues, Youri focuses on the human’s interventions that influence the future of nature. He expects to confront us with the silliness of our actions towards the world to push us to contemplate its beauty and fragility and encourage us to preserve it.
The naration expresses itself in a poetry and surrealism universe. Videos depicts human body through simple, absurd and repetitive actions. Youri carries us away in a mixture of several techniques: simple still shot, loops, several sequences overlay, extension or compression of time in long sequences or extreme slow motions. His installations take us from a global immersions into the video, or focus on his purpuse with different size and type of screens.
In parallel, Youri Cayron is a producer and curator who founded and ran an artist-run space in Marseille between 2013 and 2016. He presented the work of some forty artists in a dozen of group exhibitions, some of them in collaboration with other structures such as La Friche Belle-de-Mai and La Collection d’Ana D.
